German commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 will make Ultra HD content (4K) available to its viewers through the red button on the remote control for the first time.
The precondition is an Ultra HD TV set compliant with HbbTV and connected to the internet.
Kick-off is with content from the series Abenteuer Leben am Sonntag on TV channel kabel eins on August 6 and 13, 2017 at 22.15 CET. During the linear broadcast, an on-screen message invites viewers to press the red button which takes them to a dedicated landing page on the HbbTV portal.
If a 4K TV set is used, the content will automatically be shown in the resolution four times higher than HDTV. Viewers without a 4K TV set can watch the content in HD quality.
After the broadcast, the 4K content will remain available on-demand on the channel’s catch-up service.
