The new series of the BBC’s Top of the Lake is to be released in its entirety on the BBC iPlayer.
All six episodes of Top of The Lake: China Girl will be available to download or stream from Thursday 27 July, just one hour after it makes its premiere on BBC Two.
Top of The Lake: China Girl sees the return of Elisabeth Moss to her Golden Globe winning role as Detective Robin Griffin. She will be joined by Nicole Kidman and Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, says: “It is imperative that we continue to explore and offer a range of ways to watch our dramas and I believe BBC Two and Jane Campion’s Top of The Lake: China Girl is the perfect offering as the next full series to premiere on BBC iPlayer.”
The BBC has been searching for ways to position itself against the growing influence of streaming service Netflix. Sky has also released shows as a full series or ‘boxed set’ ahead of linear transmission, most recently the thriller Riviera.
Top of The Lake: China Girl is a crime mystery story that finds Detective Robin Griffin recently returned to Sydney and trying to rebuild her life. When the body of an Asian girl washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Robin discovers ‘China Girl’ didn’t die alone.
