The Romanian regulator ANCOM has undergone a massive shake-up instigated by its new president, Adrian Dita.
ZF reports that no fewer than 18 executives holding leading positions have either been downgraded or received an overnight notice of dismissal.
It adds that Dita was summoned to the IT Committee in Romania’s parliament to provide an explanation but failed to appear, citing health reasons.
In a subsequent media interview, he refused to discuss the reorganisation he set in motion.
Dita was elected on May 11 and issued a decision to reorganise ANCOM on June 8.
Catalin Drula, the chairman of the IT Committee, described the actions as a “lightning war inside the institution. Basically, the entire leadership of the institution was beheaded”.
He also said that up until now ANCOM had been regarded by the European Commission as an institution of good practice.
