Consolidation in Spain’s cable industry is gathering pace, with the board of Euskaltel agreeing to the acquisition of Telecable and Zegona as a 15% shareholder in the newly expanded Euskaltel Group.
According to El Economista, following the integration of Galicia’s R and acquisition of Asturias-based Telecable from Zegona, the group will provide 2.4 million daily services to over 800,000 customers in Euskadi, Galicia and Asturias.
This will effectively make it the leading convergent operator in northern Spain.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, the acquisition of a 100% stake in Telecable from Zegona, in a deal worth €686 million, was announced in mid-May.
Telecable will represent around 15% of the newly expanded group’s volume and offer a high level of synergies.
The expanded group’s turnover is estimated at €711 million (+24%) and EBITDA €346 million (+23%).
