Stephanie Flanders to lead Bloomberg Economics

June 26, 2017 18.03 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Former BBC Economics Editor Stephanie Flanders to lead a new unit called Bloomberg Economics. She starts in October and will be based in the London office.

In a memo, Bloomberg Editor in Chief John Micklethwait, wrote “We believe that we can provide a better product if our BI economists and our economics journalists in BN belong to one unified team. So in October we will bring them together into one unit called Bloomberg Economics.

“I am delighted to say that we have recruited Stephanie Flanders, currently the chief market strategist for JPMorgan Asset Management in London, to lead the combined team. After Oxford and Harvard, Stephanie worked as an economist at the London Business School and the Institute of Fiscal Studies. She joined the Financial Times and later was recruited by Larry Summers to the U.S. Treasury. From there she went to the New York Times and then the BBC, where she was the Economics Editor and had her own show and blog. She has been with JPMorgan since 2013.

“Stephanie, who will be based in London but spend her first few months in New York, will report directly to Reto and me and will join us at the beginning of October. Until then the economics journalists will continue to report to Marty Schenker and the BI economists to Michael McDonough and David Dwyer. The economists will continue to have a secondary reporting line into BI after Stephanie’s arrival.

I am pleased to say that Dan Moss, who has led our economics journalists for more than a decade and built the team into a reporting powerhouse of 100 people around the globe, will soon take on a new role in the world of commentary and analysis, where he will help deepen and expand our offering.”
