Three out of ten German internet users from 14 years of age (29%) watch movies and series on fee-based video-on-demand (VOD) portals such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, maxdome, Sky Ticket, Apple iTunes or Google Play.
This is the result of a survey among 1,007 people from 14 years of age on behalf of German industry association Bitkom. In 2016, the figure amounted to just 25%.
In total, three-quarters of the German internet users from 14 years of age (75%) watch movies, TV programmes and other videos as streams on the web. The most popular streaming sites are video portals such as YouTube, Vimeo or Vevo. They are accessed by 77% of the video streaming users.
Almost three-quarters (74%) of video streaming users watch TV programmes on the websites and catch-up portals of TV channels. Around half of them (54%) watch linear TV channels on the web as live-streams.
