Spain’s Movistar, Mediaset, TVE, Atresmedia, Mediapro and TV3 have submitted bids for the broadcast rights to the Champions League for the next three seasons.
According to El Pais, UEFA will now negotiate individually with each of the groups to decide on the best offers.
It adds that UEFA aims to secure over €200 million per season for the rights, or 30% more than was paid for each of the last three seasons.
One of the main novelties in the auction is the elimination of an open party, as has already happened in France, the UK and Italy.
As in the previous bidding process in Spain in 2014, Mediapro (beINSport), Atresmedia (Antena 3, La Sexta, Neox) and TV3 have joined forces against the rest.
In the previous bid, Mediapro snatched Movistar’s rights for pay-TV matches and Atresmedia and TV3 beat TVE and Mediaset (Telecinco, Cuatro, Energy) to the FTA rights.
