German TV rights sales company Telepool seems to be for sale.
A Swiss consultancy has been commissioned to evaluate the market and the sale of the company based in Munich, Zurich, Leipzig and Los Angeles, the Bavarian affiliate of German public broadcaster ARD confirmed to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Besides ARD’s Bavarian affiliate BR, MDR, SWR Media Services and Telvetia, a subsidiary of Swiss public broadcaster SRG SSR, are shareholders in Telepool.
A sale of Telepool would be in the joint interest of all shareholders, BR said in a statement, adding that the company was successful, but – as a subsidiary of regulated broadcasters – had increasingly less freedom to develop activities with commercially profitable prospects such as games marketing or video portals.
