Kabel-TV Lampert adds IP to DVB-C with Zattoo

May 30, 2017 09.00 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Austrian cable operator Kabel-TV Lampert has chosen the new DVB-C/IP hybrid TV platform from Zattoo.

The white label solution enables Kabel-TV Lampert to launch a TV product that combines the best of both worlds: Popular live TV channels will still be delivered to customers over the company’s cable network via DVB-C, complemented by IPTV services such as Restart TV, Catch-up TV and Cloud Recording. Less frequently watched channels will also be transmitted via IP.

The hybrid solution for the first screen was developed together with German set-top-box provider ABOX42 and is supported by the ABOX42 M30 hybrid set-top-box series.

Zattoo show a live demonstration of the solution to be introduced in autumn 2017 at ANGA COM 2017 on its stand R9 in hall 8.

“In the long term, linear cable TV alone will not be enough to survive in the changing TV market, where we are seeing more and more people using time-delayed and additional content. This is why our goal is to continue developing our cable TV product and to make sure it remains relevant in the future,” said Karoline Lampert, CEO of Kabel-TV Lampert. “I’m very happy that our cooperation with Zattoo gives us the chance to do just that and allows us to reach a new level.”

Kabel-TV Lampert decided to use the Zattoo white label platform back in 2015, but until now this was only for mobile applications on iOS and Android as well as a browser-based service for PC or Mac. These apps will now include IPTV services; they will be fully integrated into the first screen TV product with the set-top box. This allows customers to manage their recordings while on the go or to choose their favourite channels on each device, for example.

The new hybrid TV solution is another joint development from Zattoo and ABOX 42, the German provider of IPTV, OTT and hybrid TV set-top-boxes. The two companies have been providing IPTV solutions for years. They are used by German companies such as M-net, NetCologne or EWE TEL.

Now both companies have added the joint hybrid IP solution for cable operators with DVB-C infrastructure to their portfolios. The goal is to provide TV solutions that can be implemented without high investments, with a short project lead time and a lean project organisation.

Zattoo operates the complete service as an end-to-end solution and also looks after the operation of the multiscreen product, managing the set-top-boxes in the field as well a continuing to develop the applications. “As a regional cable TV network operator, Kabel-TV Lampert can now enter the future and offer a product portfolio previously restricted to large multi-national companies,” said Gernot Jaeger, Chief Officer of B2B TV Solutions at Zattoo.
