The users of German HDTV satellite platform HD+ are particularly open towards Ultra HD (UHD).
With 15.4%, the share of HD+ households equipped with an UHD TV set is almost three times higher than the average TV household (5.4%). And they seem to like it: 81% of HD+ households with an UHD TV set are satisfied with the picture quality. With a share of 70%, HD+ households are far more familiar with UHD than TV households on average (55%).
These are the results of a special survey regarding UHD as part of the Astra TV-Monitor 2016.
Besides the better picture quality, HD+ users are also keen on large-screen TV sets: 10.1% of HD+ households have an UHD screen of least 55 inches while the share among all TV households just amounts to 3.2%. 17.6% of all HD+ households would buy an UHD screen of more than 55 inches while among all TV households only 9.6% would do so.
With UHD1 by Astra/HD+, HD+ already offers its customers an UHD channel with exclusive content.
There are currently 3 million UHD TV sets in German living rooms. By the end of 2017, further 2.6 million devices are expected to be sold, according to German industry association gfu.
