SERAPHIC has launched a brand new lightweight HTML5 browser at BroadcastAsia 2017 in Singapore.
Commenting on the development, Xinwen, Xue, VP product management at SERAPHIC, said the Sraf Lite browser is “optimised for DTV and STB products and able to run with quite low DDR memory consumption at very small flash space size”.
He added that it enables operators to provide amazing viewing experience on resource limited terminal devices at affordable cost and therefore is “best fit for operators in emerging markets, such as Southeast Asia, where DTV and OTT services are just booming up”.
The Sraf Lite browser uses latest HTML5 technologies such as Media Source Extensions (MSE), Encrypted Media Extensions (EME), Web Storage, and WebSocket to support modern web applications such as YouTube TV. It also supports high-performance UIs on resources limited devices and low end devices to provide OTT services.
Sraf Lite was demoed with the support of ALi Corporation, MStar Semiconductor and Cultraview.
Xue continued” “DTV transition has been sweeping around the world. However operators, especially those MSOs in emerging markets, are facing with ever more obstacles to provide hybrid broadcast and broadband viewing experience to their end users and in need of strong browser technology support from the industry. We are delighted to play a positive role during this transition together with industry partners including manufacturers, SoC vendors, content providers and even standard associations.”
Commenting specifically about the partnership with Ali, Ye Wang, CEO at SERAPHIC, said: “It is a great opportunity to partner with ALi to launch Sraf Lite browser. The partnership is valuable for OTT operators with multiple advantages. First, operators with limited budget and resources are now able to offer amazing viewing experience at affordable cost with the joint solution of Sraf Lite and the highly-integrated set-top box SoC from ALi. Meanwhile, PC emulator is provided so that the operators can develop their own OTT Web application easily.”
Tony Chang, COO at ALi Corp, added: “We are looking forward to launching Sraf Lite browser on ALi’s mainstream STB chipsets. As anticipated, DTV transition has been sweeping around the world, while OTT operators, especially those in emerging markets, are faced with challenges of integrating strong browser support”.
