BBC Worldwide is to review the future of the BBC Store just 18 months after the service made its debut.
Viewers can purchase digital copies of popular BBC shows including Line of Duty, Car Share and The Replacement (pictured) from around £3.99 an episode or boxed sets between £10.99 and £24.99.
However, its felt that the UK-only service is losing out to international players including Netflix and Amazon that often include the same content as part of their own monthly subscription.
Sources familiar with the situation confirmed to Broadband TV News that a review was underway.
Recently the BBC teamed with ITV for the launch of Britbox, which distributes content from both broadcasters in the United States.
BBC Worldwide has always been careful to differentiate the BBC Store from the Global iPlayer, which also failed to make an impact.
