Amazon will shortly roll out an OTT service with linear TV channels and on-demand content in the UK and Germany.
This was confirmed to Broadband TV News by two people familiar with the situation. Amazon Channels will initially contain around 25 pay-TV channels, both from major broadcast groups and smaller players, according to the sources.
With the launch of the Streaming Partners Program, which will be accompanied by large-scale advertising campaigns, Amazon will compete with established pay-TV platform providers in the UK and Germany.
The OTT service, which will be available to Amazon Prime members as an additional subscription option as part of the Amazon Video platform, launched in the US in December 2015 with partners including Showtime, Starz, A+E Network and AMC.
