The Moscow City Court has ruled that two sites illegally distributing content from the station Ren TV should be permanently blocked.
At the same time, reports Kommersant, Ren TV is trying to legalise its content distributed on other sites.
This has proved quite successful, with 70 portals having started to carry programming from Ren TV with its permission in the last six months.
As a result, the number of viewers accessing Ren TV’s website has increased ten-fold over the same period.
Online ad spend in Russia grew by 19% to R6.6 billion (€105.7 million) in 2016.
Some 6%, or R400 million, was posted on sites with pirated content, though some estimates believe the true amount was two to three times higher.
