The Swiss cable operators continue to grow through selling internet and telephony subscriptions while they are still losing TV customers.
On March 31, 2017, the cable companies had a total of around 870,000 telephony customers (760,500 fixed-line and 110,000 mobile customers), reports industry association Suissedigital. This corresponds with a customer increase of 12.4% in the past 12 months.
The number of broadband internet customers rose by 1.5% to 1.24 million. The number of TV customers, however, dropped by 2.5% to 2.43 million, reflecting the strong competition with the IPTV platform Swisscom TV operated by telco Swisscom.
Swisscom TV grew by 8.7% to 1.44 million customers in the past 12 months. In Q1 2017 alone, 20,000 new customers were gained.
