Canal to license Showtime content in France

May 3, 2017 09.37 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Canal+ Group has signed an exclusive licence with CBS to screen content from US premium channel Showtime.

The contract includes at least 10 current or future series including the reboot of David Lynch series Twin Peaks. Canal will also have the exclusive rights to Dexter, Nurse Jackie, Ray Donovan, The Affair and Californication.

Maxime Saada, Managing Director of Canal + Group, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our longstanding relationship with CBS around the original Showtime series, which have been very successful among our subscribers since we started broadcasting Dexter in 2007. We can only admire the quality and variety of their programs and the characters they know how to create, and we are delighted to be able to introduce them to the widest French audience.”

The long-term agreement also includes French-speaking Africa, Switzerland and Monaco.

Armando Nuñez, CEO of CBS Studios International, said: “The value and prestige of the Showtime brand continues to grow in the global market and this agreement demonstrates the strength and quality of the series created and produced by Showtime. We look forward to working with an exceptional partner such as the Canal + Group to offer the French public the original Showtime series recognised by the critics. ”

Showtime has other international agreements with Sky, Bell (Canada), STAN (Australia) and Movistar (Spain), amongst others.
