Opera TV teams up with JW Player

May 2, 2017 11.03 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Opera TV has entered into a partnership with the digital and mobile video platform and player company JW Player.

As a result, Opera TV Snap and JW Player will enable the latter’s over two million supported websites to package online video channels into ready-to-run TV apps.

Commenting on the development, Daniel Nordberg, VP Content at Opera TV, said: “Opera TV Snap was designed with content creators in mind, to make it as fast and easy as possible to distribute content on smart TV devices.

“Since its introduction, Opera TV Snap has spurred the creation of countless Smart TV apps around the world and has made millions of pieces of video content accessible on the biggest screen in the home—the TV. With the JW Player partnership, we can deliver even more outstanding content to consumers.”

Dave Otten, CEO and co-founder at JW Player, added: “Partnering with Opera TV is a fantastic opportunity for JW Player customers, which include broadcasters, publishers and creators, to distribute their video content to millions of smart TV devices across the globe.

“Now, within a few simple, intuitive steps, our customers can reach and monetise audiences they previously many not have been able to touch.”

First launched in 2013 supporting only one video platform, the next-generation Opera TV Snap is now a one-stop shop for multiple platforms including Brightcove Video Cloud, DailyMotion and channel formats like Media RSS (MRSS).
