Netflix reaches 5 million customers in Germany

April 30, 2017 21.20 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Netflix has won around 5 million customers two and a half years after its launch in Germany.

This corresponds with a market share of 20%, reports German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche with reference to a survey by market research and consultancy company Goldmedia among 50,000 German households.

The market leader in the German subscription video-on-demand market remains Amazon Prime Video with a market share of 47% followed by Sky Go and maxdome.

The most popular content on both Amazon and Netflix are series: At both services, only series are part of the 10 most-watched formats.

The most popular Netflix titles are sitcom Big Bang Theory and drama House of Cards. Among Amazon viewers, The Man in the High Castle and Big Bang Theory top the list.
