Liberty Global will have to wait until at least September to find out if it has received approval to buy Multimedia Polska, Poland’s third largest cable operator.
Quoting Maciej Chmielowski, a spokesman for the competion authority UOKiK, Wirtualne Media reports that the investigation into the proposed $760 million acquisition, first announced in October 2016, is proving complicated.
The first stage of the proceedings, analysing the proposal, was completed in January. At the same time, the second phase, involving market research, got under way.
Although it should have been completed this month, the UOKiK is only now receiving answers and these are generating still more questions.
As a result, the authority is unlikely to reach a final decision before Sepetember.
The acquistion of a 100% stake in Multimedia Polska is being undertaken by Liberty Global’s UPC Polska.
The latter is already Poland’s largest cable operator, followed by Vectra and Multimedia.
Broadband TV News notes that Liberty Global also had to wait a number of months before it gained final approval to buy the Polish cable operator Aster.
