YouTube accounted for most traffic on Telenor’s mobile network in Norway during Easter.
Norwegians also use more data traffic: mobile traffic was 66% higher than last year’s Easter, according to Telenor figures from week 15 through Easter Sunday.
YouTube accounted for 14% of all data traffic on the mobile network. “It indicates that many Norwegians have spent Easter eagerly to stream video content on mobile phones and tablets during their vacation,” said Bjørn Ivar Moen, Head of Mobile in Telenor Norway.
The traffic reached its peak at noon on Good Friday April 21. “Good Friday night is another time when Norwegians turn to their mobiles and tablets to see the favourite series or share their holiday in social media,” said Moen.
Of the top 10 most used apps, Twitter had the lowest traffic with 0.2%. “However, that does not mean that Twitter is used a little. Twitter is used diligently among Norwegians, but does not get so high on list because the app does not require as much mobile data as YouTube and Facebook. We also assume that the debate and the exchange of opinions, which characterize Twitter, take a breath in the easter,” explained Moen.
Total data traffic in the Easter week is 50% higher than the week before.
