The deadline for the submission of Ofcom’s public interest report into the proposed Fox/Sky merger has been extended until 20 June.
It follows the calling of a snap General Election by prime minister Theresa May earlier this week. Subsequently, Secretary of State, Karen Bradley has advised the regulator of the change.
As Ofcom has reiterated its advice that the issues we are required to consider in the public interest assessment may overlap with its own consideration of Sky’s fitness to hold broadcasting licences.
It’s therefore expected the fit and proper assessmentwill also reach its conclusions on June 20.
Earlier, this month the European Commission gace its unconditional approval to the £11.7 billion Twenty-First Century Fox takeover of Sky.
The Commission concluded the transaction would raise no competition concerns in Europe.
