The operator of Russia’s Match TV has filed an application with the Moscow City Court to accept preliminary measures against sports.ru.
Kommersant reports that the application has been granted and the regulator Roskomnadzor is now required to close the contentious content being distributed by sports.ru.
Match TV was launched in November 2015, employing a frequency formerly used by Rossiya 2.
It is operated by National Sports TV Channel (NSC), which is owned by Gazprom Media, and invested R6.5 billion (€108.6 million) on TV rights last year.
However, it also effectively disabled access to video partners’ sites, including sports.ru and championat.com, by no longer providing them with clips of major football tournaments.
