In move against illegal usage of its services, Netflix has blocked its service to a number of customers of Dutch cabler Kabel Noord.
Some of the customers of Kabel Noord could not use Netflix for a couple of days. The cable company has received various complaints and an investigation has revealed that these customers were blocked by Netflix. After a couple of days the problem was eventually solved by Netflix.
Netflix indicated that a number of customers used their Netflix subscription “illegally”. Instead of blocking these users, Netflix blocked all customers in a certain range of IP addresses.
Netflix did not explain the situation to Kabel Noord. It took several days before the problem was solved. “Like a couple of weeks ago, it took this time quite long before we received an answer. We have yet to receive any information from Netflix about how it could avoid blocking an entire internet range in such cases,” according to the cabler in local press reports.
