The Russian DTH platform operator Orion ended the first quarter with 2,978,500 subscribers, or 1% more than three months earlier.
Meanwhile, its revenues in Q1 amounted to R765,320,000 (€12,814,400), a 23% increase on the corresponding period in 2016.
The first quarter saw Orion sign a new agreement to lease capacity on Intelsat-15 and launch a new OTT service, in the latter case working with ivi, the country’s leading OTT platform.
Orion also expanded its cooperation with Viacom International Media Networks, becoming its technical partner for the launch of Spike in the Russian market.
Commenting on the results, Kirill Makhnovsky, general director of Orion, said that with the rate of new subscriber acquisitions in decline, the company was vindicated in its strategy of making its existing customer base more profitable.
