The Polish public broadcaster TVP is preparing to secure credit of PLN800 million (€188.4 million) over a six-year period.
According to Wirtualne Media, it plans to allocate half of the funds to its technological development and the remainder to programme production.
Quoting Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, it adds that unofficial sources say that TVP has approached the country’s finance minister to obtain the funding from the state bank BGK.
It would be provided on the same terms as a private banks in order to not be seen as state support by the European Commission.
TVP expects its financial position to impriove following amendments to the law governing receiver licence fees for radio and TV services.
