Netflix has never been one to shout about how well its landmark shows are performing. But the streamer has given some indication as to the genres and titles that are proving the most popular amongst its UK subscribers.
It’s a list dominated by US imports with the occasional Netflix original.
The streamer looked at the shows viewed by UK subscribers from October 2016 to March 2017 to establish which region was most likely to view a particular genre.
In the North East, viewers like to be scared, turning to dramas including The Vampire Diaries, American Horror Stories and Dexter. Across the Pennines the North West prefers factual content through documentary and factual series ranging from Amanda Knox and Making A Murderer to reality series RuPauls’ Drag Race and Hell’s Kitchen.
London and Northern Ireland viewers prefer dramas including House Of Cards, The Crown and The Big Short in London and Suits, Sons of Anarchy and The Good Wife in Northern Ireland.
Given the budget enjoyed by The Crown, Netflix might be disappointed that the royal biopic is not the most popular show everywhere, but with no actual figures provided, it still might be.
In the South East its romance through series Gilmore Girls – in line for a second revived series, Gossip Girl and Skins alongside films such as Fundamentals of Caring and Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
In Wales, Gavin & Stacey and The Big Bang Theory show comedy is alive and well in the valleys.
