Spain’s pay-TV market grew by 10.6% to 6 million subscribers in the year to September 30, 2016, according to data published by the regulator CNMC.
While the number of IP and cable customers increased by 843,000 over the period, those receiving satellite services fell by 300,000.
Meanwhile, over half (7 million) of the country’s 13.7 million fixed broadband connections had internet access speeds of 30Mbps or higher.
The total number of homes receiving quadruple or quintuple packages reached 10.6 million in Q3 2016, or 1.3 million more than a year earlier.
In the broadband sector, Movistar was the market leader, accounting for 43.5% of total revenues. This was practically the same as a year earlier, as was the share for second placed Vodafone (20%). Together with third placed Orange, which saw its share increase to 17.6%, they accounted for almost 81% of retail revenues.
In the free TV sector, the two main operators Mediaset and Atresmedia had the same share of revenues as a year earlier.
