The vast majority of French TV households choose DTT as their primary means of reception, according to a Perceptiva Labs study for transmission company TDF.
It says the French are satisfied with the stability and reliability of the signal and want the service to be maintained, something that is particularly true of the young.
45% of homes have DTT as the means of distribution on their main TV set, followed by ADSL (33%), Satellite (16%), Fibre (11%) and Cable 9%. In addition DTT is used alongside 50% of ADSL connections.
The two main reasons behind ADSL’s reliance on DTT are “Manual recommended it” (41%) and “To get better quality TV reception” (38%).
When combined with secondary sets, 68% of French households use DTT.
In terms of reception quality DTT and Fibre are neck and neck, but the study finds when Fibre has problems it falls well below an acceptable standard.
