Catalin Marinescu is set to step down as president of ANCOM, one of the leading industry regulators in Romania.
Quoting market sources, ZF reports that he will take up a position at the European Commission.
It adds that Marinescu is one of the most experineced Romanian officials in the country’s communications market.
Under his leadership, one of the largest auctions in Romania’s history saw the state net over €700 million in a mobile tender.
Broadband TV News also notes that Marinescu has presided over many changes in the country’s TV industry.
Even now, ANCOM is undertaking a DTT tender.
Marinescu was proposed by Romania’s PM Emil Boc in 2009 and appointed by President Traian Basescu.
He was the first president in ANCOM’s history to serve a full six-year term.
