OTT service aids Russia’s MegaFon

March 17, 2017 09.30 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Russian mobile operator MegaFon’s video and TV OTT solution MegaFon TV had 1.6 million registered users as of the end of 2016.

Of these, over 70% opted for MegaFon bundled tariffs and 80% accessed the service via portable data-enabled devices.

As of the end of 2016, MegaFon TV had a 9% share of the paid content and OTT market in Russia.

MegaFon TV is available to MegaFon subscribers and those of other mobile operators.

It offers a large VOD library and over 130 live TV channels.

In its latest set of results, MegaFon says its revenues in 2016 amounted to R316.3 billion (€5 billion), or 0.9% more than a year earlier.

Adjusted OIBDA was 8.5% lower at R121.1 billion and net profit 34.7% lower at R25.5 billion.

MegaFon also notes that increased revenues from MegaFon TV partly compensated for a decline in wireless revenues in 2016.
