MTV chooses Norigin Media to build smart TV apps

March 7, 2017 10.41 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Finnish media and TV company MTV Oy has chosen Norigin Media to build smart TV applications on Samsung and LG Connected TVs.

The company which is part of the Bonnier Group plans to launch a new premium TV streaming services on these applications.

Norigin Media will utilise its multi-screen TV-App modules and framework to develop the custom designed applications for the broadcaster. The unique applications will be directly integrated towards MTV´s advanced OTT platform, which already supports the Katsomo Apps today.

MTV have already had success with the Katsomo multi-screen applications. The genres offered include varied segments of Kids, Sports, TV Series and movies that are all uniquely popular within the OTT-video space. The streaming services from MTV attract more than two million sessions a week and include a host of advertising-funded (AVOD) and premium content.

“MTV is visionary about their unique design and user experience. Norigin has been selected to implement the smart-TV apps, which requires a short deployment timeline and a very high quality user-interface and experience,” said Jyri kylönen, Assistant Director of of MTV Oy.

“Norigin has deployed multi-screen Apps across Europe for many years which was a key factor in us choosing them.”

Ajey Anand, Norigin Media’s CEO added: “Multi-Screen TV App development in the 21st century is all about keeping up with devices, video, DRM and an ecosystem of platforms which change ever so often. We pride ourselves in adapting to these technologies, thus ensuring quick and quality deployment for our customers. We are most happy to start working with a leading broadcaster like MTV.”
