Ukraine began this year with 470,800 subscribers to satellite TV services.
This, according to data published by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, was a five-fold increase on the 90,400 total as of April 1, 2016.
The increased take-up of IPTV services was even more pronounced, growing from 16,600 to 540,900 over the same period.
On the other hand, the cable TV subscriber total increased from only 2,625,700 to 2,930,200 over the same period.
Significantly, it reached a peak of 3,419,600 as of October 1, before dipping to 2,930,200 three months later. In the cable TV sector the take-up of digital services fell slightly, from 805,300 (April 1, 2016) to 755,400 (January 1, 2017).
Over the same period, the internet subscriber total increased from 14,203,200 to 16,723,000. Take-up of fixed services grew from 4,898,100 to 5,013,200.
Quoting the Ukrainian Association of Rights Holders and Content Providers, Telesputnik and AKTR note that cable operators saw their revenues increase from UAH1.545 billion (€53.363 million in 2015 to UAH1.589 billion last year.
At the same time, revenues from internet services rose from UAH6.130 billion to UAH6.477 billion.
