VimpelCom becomes Veon, inks Vivendi deal

February 27, 2017 10.53 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

VimpelCom has been renamed Veon and struck a global distribution partnership with Vivendi.

According to the Amsterdam-based company, the latter will bring feature film quality short-form video, in the shape of Vivendi’s new service Studio +, to Veon’s customer base.

Veon has also entered into a global partnership with Deezer that will link mobile customers across the world with Deezer’s music library of over 40 million tracks.

Veon says it is reinventing itself “into a global tech company and brings a revolutionary internet mobile platform to hundreds of millions of customers in the markets of tomorrow”.

It adds that Veon is “the name for both the company and its new personal internet platform, which integrates powerful data analytics and artificial intelligence to put the user in control”.

Veon will be showcased at this week’s MWC in Barcelona.
