BT Sport has announced plans to show exclusive live coverage of Manchester United v St Etienne and Manchester City v AS Monaco in Dolby Atmos sound. It’s the first time the format has been used in either UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League matches.
Manchester United take on St Etienne at Old Trafford on Thursday (February 16, 2017); the Manchester City game will be shown next Tuesday.
Jamie Hindhaugh, chief operating officer BT TV & BT Sport, said: “BT Sport is always aiming to be innovative and Dolby Atmos sound is a fantastic addition for viewers watching the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. We’ve already shown four Barclays Premier League matches in Dolby Atmos sound so far this year and I’m delighted that BT Sport is delivering the same immersive experience for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. We want viewers to truly feel the atmosphere of the stadium when watching games BT Sport.”
The telco turned broadcaster screened its first match on Dolby Atmos in January, when Liverpool played Chelsea in the Champions League.
BT plans to make every subsequent Premier League match broadcast live, as well as a selection of FA Cup games, also available in in Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos.
Dolby Atmos sound combined with Ultra HD will deliver the most immersive experience possible, allowing viewers to feel as if they are in the stadium.
