Facebook has announced a new app, Facebook Video, for several major TV platforms: Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung smart TVs.
With the announcement, the company confirms speculation it was about to launch such an app. Facebook Video will provide a more convenient way for users of the social network to view videos on a large screen.
Facebook’s Dana Sittler, Product Manager, and Alex Li, Engineering Manager, wrote on the comopany’s blig: “”Last year we rolled out the ability for you to stream videos from Facebook to your TV, and today’s announcement expands this capability. With the app, you can watch videos shared by friends or pages you follow, top live videos from around the world, and recommended videos based on your interests.”
This app also allows users to watch a list of videos saved to a “watch later” list and has a “recently watched” list of sorts.
There is nbof ixed time-tabel for the app, but Facebook said it expects the applications to roll our “soon” for users of Apple, Amazon and Samsung, with additional platforms likely to be added. Notably absent is a version for Google’s Android TV, at least for now.
