HBO Europe has restructured its senior original production team and promoted three executive producers to VP.
Johnathan Young is appointed VP, Original Programming and Production, HBO Central Europe and assumes responsibility for the central European teams in Warsaw, Prague, Budapest and Bucharest.
Steve Matthews becomes VP and Executive Producer, Drama Development, HBO Europe, with a brief covering Central Europe, Nordic and Spain.
Hanka Kastelicova becomes VP and Executive Producer, Documentaries, HBO Europe reflecting the wide-ranging success of HBO Europe’s documentary output under her leadership.
The three VPs report directly to Antony Root, EVP, Original Programming and Production, HBO Europe. HBO Europe continues creating original dramas and miniseries such as Burning Bush / Horici ker, Wasteland / Pustina in the Czech Republic and The Pack / Wataha in Poland, using writers and directors from central and eastern Europe.
“These promotions recognise our senior team’s outstanding achievements over the last few years. The original productions they have overseen have been successful with local audiences, sold internationally, selected for major festivals and have received many awards,” said Antony Root.
“Three of our senior executives will now cover specific geographical regions – Johnathan Young at HBO Central Europe, Hanne Palmquist at HBO Nordic and Miguel Salvat, recently appointed at HBO España. Steve Matthews and Hanka Kastelicova will have genre remits respectively in drama development and documentaries across all three HBO Europe regions.
“We are immensely proud of our programming achievements and that HBO Europe series and documentaries are now being seen and recognised internationally. This has only been made possible by the exceptional quality of our production executives. We look forward to continued success in central and eastern Europe and to building our original programming presence in the Nordic region and Spain.”
