Czech O2 secures DTT licence

February 10, 2017 08.41 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Czech Radio and TV Broadcasting Council (RRTV) had awarded a national terrestrial TV licence to the incumbent telco O2.

Valid for 12 years, it allows O2 to operate a 24-hour channel named O2 TV Free.

The channel, which will be in the Czech language, will offer viewers sport/information-based programming.

Although no further information about O2’s plans are available, local reports say it is likely to employ HbbTV technology, which is now widely used in Czech DTT broadcasting.
