Kabel & Medien Service (KMS), part of German cable company Tele Columbus Group, has introduced high-speed internet access in Markt Indersdorf, a commune north-west of Munich.
Private households and businesses can now surf the net with a data rate of 1Gbps. The communal network taken into service in June 2016 reaches businesses and around 3,500 households in all 59 parts of the commune which has around 10,000 inhabitants.
Initially, 100Mbps were offered, in August 2016 the speed was increased to 400Mbps. The launch of the 1Gbps service marks the first time a whole commune is provided with such a high-speed in Germany.
