In 2016, 56.2% of all Dutch viewers watched a programme online from one of the main broadcasters, NPO, RTL and SBS, totaling 8.752 million viewers.
Public broadcaster NPO was by far the best watched broadcaster with its online service with 2,348,000 viewers; RTL was the runner-up with 1,922,000 viewers; while SBS reached just 839,000 viewers in 2016.
Most people watch online video on their desktop or laptop, 2,039,000; 1,331,000 people were reached via tablet and 897,000 via smartphone.
The best-watched programme online was the documentary Emma wil leven – Anorexia special with 289,000 viewers; 22% of all people who watched the programme did so online. The comedy programme Rundfunk enjoyed the largest share of online viewing: 44% of all people who watched the programme did so online.
