RTL XL to offer real time commercials on smart TVs

January 25, 2017 10.19 Europe/London By Robert Briel

RTL Nederland has launched real-time pre-rolls and mid-rolls on the connected TV app RTL XL through the video inventory management platform SpotX.

The connected TV app is available on all smart TVs from LG, Philips and Samsung. RTL is anticipating the growing demand from advertisers for a product that can be purchased in real time. Moreover connected TV apps such as RTL XL are becoming more popular among consumers, partly because of the increasing number of households with a smart TV.

Sales of real-time commercials on the connected TV app RTL XL is an addition to linear television campaigns. Where regular commercials be used to reach a mass audience, makes purchasing via the SpotX platform as focused as possible range. The innovation is that ads are delivered via personalised connected TV app to the growing number of consumers watching catch-up TV.

“This is an important step for RTL and for the television industry. More and more consumers watch catch-up programmes on their smart TV and need relevant advertising. By opening up the connected TV app inventory of RTL XL we respond to this development. In addition, we offer advertisers greater range and an efficient and effective way of purchasing via SpotX,” said Ton Rozenstraten, Chief Commercial Officer at RTL.
