Russia’s leading pay-TV operator Tricolor TV has published the results of a study into its subscribers’ preferences.
Undertaken in 2016 using its own telemetry system, it shows that 36.67% of viewers watched pay thematic channels in the ‘Tricolor TV’ package.
At the same time, 63.33% chose to watch the content of publicly available federal channels.
Interestingly, there was a very strong preference (92%) for channels with a significant share of Russian content, with the remainder opting for foreign pay channels.
The preference for domestic over foreign content was noticeable across all genres with the notable exception of kids channels, which had a rating of 5.30% versus one of 1.37% for Russian services.
More generally, the most watched pay channels on Tricolor TV were films and series, with a share of 14.15%.
Kids and entertainment channels accounted for 6.67% and 5.39% respectively, with educational claiming only 0.14%.
