The Bulgarian telco MTel has entered the country’s sports TV market with the launch of three HD channels.
On air for 24 hours daily, Mtel Sport 1, Mtel Sport 2 and EDGESport will offer over 20 different sports, covering over 250 tournaments and competitions annually, with 8,000 of their combined 18,000 hours output each year reserved for live broadcasts.
Content will be offered on an exclusive basis in Bulgarian and include such premium events as UFC and Nascar Sprint Cup.
Mtel Sport 1 will officially make its debut on January 14 and be offered free of charge to MTel and blizoo subscribers until March 31. The company plans to make Mtel Sport 2 and EDGESport available to viewers from March 1. Again, they will be offered free of charge until March 31. EDGESport will differ from the two other channels in that it will offer viewers a variety of extreme sports.
MTel is part of Telekom Austria Group and includes blizoo, Bulgaria’s largest cable operator, among its assets.
