DFL Sports Enterprises has allocated the international Bundesliga rights for the four seasons from 2017/18 in Austria and Switzerland including Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and South Tyrol to Sky Deutschland, Eurosport and Perform Group’s sports portal DAZN.
Financial details have not been disclosed.
Like in Germany, the main media partner Sky Deutschland will show the major part of the first and second-division Bundesliga games live including comprehensive follow-up coverage. In total, the pay-TV broadcaster will transmit 572 of each season’s 612 matches live and exclusive on all distribution platforms (cable, satellite, IPTV, web, mobile TV).
Eurosport – like in Germany – will show the Friday games of the Bundesliga, the five Sunday matches scheduled at 13.30 CET, the five Monday games at 20.30 CET, four relegation matches and the Supercup including comprehensive follow-up coverage. The transmissions will take place on pay-TV channel Eurosport 2 and on subscription sports portal Eurosport Player.
The highlight clips offered on-demand on the web and via mobile TV were allocated – like in Germany – to UK-based Perform Group for distribution on its streaming service DAZN.
“The expansion of our collaboration with the national media partners to Austria and Switzerland makes sense,” said Jörg Daubitzer, managing director of DFL Sports Enterprises, the subsidiary of German football association DFL handling the rights tender.
“We thereby cover two further important markets in Europe with a total of around 14 million German-speaking inhabitants,” added Daubitzer. “For the fans of the Bundesliga in Austria and Switzerland, the collaboration has the advantage that they can, like the German fans, access the whole coverage across all technologies.”
