Orange would definitely be interested in buying Canal+ if the channel were put up for sale.
Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference in Morocco dedicated to its local subsidiary Meditel and quoted by Les Echos, Orange’s CEO Stéphane Richard added that there are many reasons for a much stronger alliance between Orange and Canal+.
Although Vincent Bolloré, chairman of the supervisory board of Vivendi, the parent company of Canal+, has said he has no intention of selling the pay-TV operator, Orange and Canal+ already work closely together in Africa and Poland.
In the former, they have strengthened their ties still further by jointly participating in a tender for the distribution of DTT channels in Ivory Coast.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, Canal+’s increased focus on the supply of premium content could eventually force Vivendi to sell it to Orange.
