Alain Berwick will step down from his position as CEO of RTL Lëtzebuerg at the end of this year.
He will continue to support RTL Group on the management of certain projects in Luxembourg and will leave the company next summer, following his 60th birthday, in best consent.
Berwick will also remain a member of the board of directors of CLT-UFA until his departure.
Commenting on the development, Elmar Heggen, CFO and head of the corporate centre of RTL Group, said: “On behalf of RTL Group, I would like to thank Alain Berwick for his outstanding achievements at the helm of RTL Lëtzebuerg. In the past 22 years, he modernised RTL Lëtzebuerg’s programming offer sustainably, expanded our local family of TV and radio channels and steered the company into the digital world very efficiently. I wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”
Berwick added: “For me, the management of RTL Lëtzebuerg and the strong foundation of our company in Luxembourg has always been a matter of the heart. For decades, RTL Lëtzebuerg has been fulfilling its important public service remit – with high popularity and professionalism. This remarkable position does not allow for any lengthy public discussion about the company’s leadership. That’s why I have decided – with a heavy heart – to give the management of RTL Lëtzebuerg into new hands.”
He continued: “With my personal plans in mind, I already began to realign the internal structure of RTL Lëtzebuerg two years ago – this does now allow executing this change in leadership earlier than originally planned. I would like to thank the whole team of RTL Lëtzebuerg for the extraordinary successes that we have scored in recent years. For the future, I wish the company and all its employees all the best!”
Berwick joined the advertising sales house IP Luxembourg – and with it RTL Group – in 1986. In 1993, he was named CEO of IP Luxembourg and took over as CEO of RTL Lëtzebuerg one year later.
A successor to CEO of RTL Lëtzebuerg will be announced in due course.
