Global media service provider MX1 has been selected by Discovery Networks Deutschland to handle technical services and satellite transmission of Eurosport 1 HD on German DTH platform HD+.
The multi-year contract was signed by Discovery Networks Deutschland, Eurosport’s parent company, and MX1, a subsidiary of Astra satellite operator SES. The company’s services include encoding, uplink and delivery in HD via Astra (19.2° East).
Eurosport 1 HD, previously only available on Sky Deutschland, was added to HD+ on December 1, 2016, increasing the total number of channels on the encrypted platform to 23.
The move is part of Discovery’s strategy to boost the reach of Eurosport following its decision to show the Olympic Games exclusively on the sports channel from 2018.
