The Polish media enterpreneur Michal Winnicki has taken a 51% stake in Nowa Media for an undisclosed fee.
According to Press.pl, Nowa Media won a tender for the TV channel TVR that was organised by a bankrupcy trustee.
It adds that an investment fund has acquired the remaining 49% of Nowa Media, which was previously owned by Marta Rudek-Lepkowska and Michal Lepkowski.
Winnicki, who has also agreed to cover Nowa Media’s debts, is the head of Michal Winnicki Entertainment, which operates the music channels Power TV and Nuta.tv, as well as the documentary-based Adventure and children’s channel Top Kids.
It is also planning to buy three to four more channels, one of which is the music-based To!TV (Telestar).
TVR was launched in 2010 and is currently distributed by a number of platforms including UPC Polska, Vectra and Toya, three of Poland’s largest cable operators.
Originally a channel aimed at viewers living in the countryside, it will be relaunched as an entertainment channel later this month.
