Greece’s Cosmote TV has entered into an exclusive agreement with Disney Pictures.
As a result, reports Digitaltvinfo.gr, it will be able to enhance its programme offer with A and B pay-TV windows films from the studios.
The agreement will also see the Star Wars franchise pass to Cosmote TV. This will allow Cosmote Cinema to premiere Star Wars: The force awakens in December. Furthermore, it gives Cosmote TV exclusive rights to the coverage of the Academy Awards (Oscars).
Cosmote TV also has agreements in place with NBC Universal and Paramount, while its competitor Nova is signed up with Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures.
This means that a ‘state of equilibrium’ can be said to exist in the movie sector between Greece’s two leading pay-TV platforms, with each claiming deals with three of the six major studios.
