EWE launches IPTV with Zattoo and ABOX42

November 21, 2016 13.25 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

ewe-zattooGerman regional telco EWE rolls out an IPTV platform for the TV set in the living room one month after its launch of mobile TV apps for smartphones and tablets.

The ITV platform available to customers of the EWE, SWB and Osnatel brands is based on the multiscreen solution Swiss internet TV provider Zattoo offers to network operators in collaboration with German set-top-box developer ABOX42 as a white label product.

Zattoo hosts and manages the complete TV platform from the headend to the TV applications for the set-top-box and mobile devices. Besides linear live TV channels, the set-top-box solution from ABOX42 comprises personal recordings in SD and HD resolution, features like teletext and HbbTV and additional services like the video-on-demand offer from maxdome.

“It is important for us to provide a modern product for the TV experience at home. Thanks to the collaboration with Zattoo and ABOX42, we are able to position ourselves in the market with a competitive TV offer,” Alexander Kreis, head of product management services at EWE, said in Oldenburg.

With the multiscreen service, EWE customers can watch different TV channels in parallel on the TV set, tablets, PCs and smartphones. From over 100 live TV channels, they can generate their personal channel listing synchronised across all devices. In addition to the nearly 50 HD channels in the basic package, users can sign up for a commercial channel HD package and foreign-language channel bouquets.
