Spain’s National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) has revised the conditions under which Telefónica provides wholesale access to its infrastructure to alternative operators.
In a statement, it says that it is in response to some of the challenges operators now face in the intensive deployment of next generation networks (NGNs).
The MARCo offer, which was approved in 2009, regulates access to the incumbent’s infrastructure and has to date seen 200 small regional and local operators, as well as leading providers such as Vodafone, Orange and MásMóvil, sign agreements with the company, giving them access to 20,000km of leased sub-ducts.
Under the revised conditions, some procedures are streamlined and shortened.
In one instance, the deployment of connections in single-family homes that require access to conduits is reduced from 35 to 10 days.
